Hunter Trommler - My self, and my views on the future.

I’ll start off by admitting something, I’m not the best at blog posts (or creative writing at all for that matter, I’mbetter at persuasive writing and business letters); with that said bear with me please, ill start getting better as i start posting more (it will happen). So with that said here i go, i started Second Life on October 6th, 2007 and a month or so after that i joined the TSL Welcomers. Then on the day of my “half rez day” as Blue Linden called it I applied for the TSL Mentors 2.0 and a few weeks later I was in. That’s all I’m going to say about myself for now, if you would like to know anything else feel free to ask me. Now my views for the future of the TSL Welcomers and well somewhat TSL in general. Before finding out about being selected for the manager position i approached Daniel and talked to himabout expanding his “Help Packs” with not only notecardsbut useful items. So i threw together a pack with stuff from my inventory such as a male and female skin from the soon to be released AH Corp & Abstract Skin Line (no i will not be selling these, which yes was a risk for me to do because I’m loosing potential good money but it was well worth it), some primhair (once again both male and female), other clothing/body part type items, some objects, textures, animations, sounds, and scripts. And i gave it to Daniel and he like it so expect to see it release soon! Now that was something that was already done, so now for what i would like to happen in the future. I would like to see us hopefully having somewhere around 250-300 members by the end of December this year. I would like to see us take the idea of the Nix Bazaar and create something like it but with only items donated by the TSL Welcomers (meaning created by us as well). The next thing i would like to see done isn’t nearly as easy as it sounds, i would like us to take advantage of the Second Life open source program, and use registration API. Yes i know that means we will need a region/simulator and I currently have some plans for how to go about that, but until there for sure i will not go into anymore detail about it at this time. I would also like to see more activity from the members of this group, as i frequently go to the Welcome Area and rarely ever see any members there and if there are they are not wearing there tags, which doesn’t help the new players to identifiy you in a croud (sometimes there is a nice croud going there). There is more but i don’t want this post to be too long, so at the next TSL Welcomers meeting if i have a chance i will reveal a few more, and at that point i should have more information on my hopes about the Registration API plan.

Thanks for reading,

        Hunter Trommler, TSL Welcomers Manager

For My First Act As Manager

Ok so, ill be posting some info about myself, what i  would like to see done with the group, etc. on the blog very soon. However i thought i would start off with a bang (not a large one, but still :P), so i have now added TSL Welcomer forums to the AH Corporation Forums! I will also be creating a group and/or rank within the forums, so you guys have a forum tag that says TSL Welcomer. So go sign up and PM me so you can be added to the group and/or rank!

—Continued In Another Notice—

So goto http://ahcorporation.net/forums and sign up for an account. The AH Corp Forums are for SL in general, not just specific things so there no limit on what you can do (within the Terms of Use xD).

Thanks,

   Hunter Trommler, TSL Welcomers Manager

[Feedback] July 08 TSL Welcomers Feedback Survey

At the start of July 2008, I created the July 2008 TSL Welcomers Survey. This survey will be updated once a month with new questions to answer, by the end of the month I will post the feedback that I had and post it up on the blog for you.

Feedback Results

Q1. What is your Full Teen Second Life Name?

A1. 8 people have under took this months TSL Welcomers July Feedback survey.

Q2: How long do you normally welcome new/current residents for in Teen Second Life?

0 - 5 minutes = 12.5%

10 - 30 minutes = 50.0%

40 - 50 min = 12.5%

1 hour or more =  37.5%

Q3. What do you like about TSL Welcomers Group?

  •   I like the idea that I offers help to the residents of Teen Second Life its a much needed service and I am glade its there.
  • The group is very organized and positive. I adore the effect that this TSL group has over the TSL community and it is very inspiring for newcommers and old.
  • I love helping people it’s just me and the tsl welcomer group give me the chance to help a lot of people.
  • Its well organized and its doing a good to TSL.
  •  Find the welcomers group to be a fine example of residents helping other residents. There are good resources at hand, including links to linden help pages.
  • It gives me a good feeling about helping ppl.
  • Really nice so far, I also learned a lot of them especially the shortcut notecard.
  •       I can help new comers.

Q4. Bad points about TSL Welcomers?

  • There is not anything that I know that is bad about the group I think its going well.
  •  None that I know of.
  • Need more active members.
  • Not a whole lot of interactivity.
  • There is no structure to the welcoming process. What is standard welcoming procedure to one resident could be extremely foreign to another. Second Life is a bewildering universe to jump into, especially without some of the basic skills they need (like teleporting).
  • We have meetings on weekends too much and im never on on weekends.
  • Nothing seen yet.
  • I have nothing that I dont like about it.

Q5. Do you have any Suggestions, Ideas, Improvements for TSL Welcomers? What are they?

  • nope keep it the way it is I already dig it!!.
  • Just continue with the dedication and the updates. Hopefully more people will begin to participate and we can have around 30-40 people attend meetings and events. :]]
  • need more active members
  • Maybe to hold more classes.
  • 1 - you need more direct access to lindens and their resources. For example, welcomers should have the ability to go to welcome islands. 2 - There should be a structured system of what to introduce people to first. Mapping and Teleporting would be important, talking on voice would be essential, basic building and possibly scripting would be nice also.
  • We should make sure that at least 50% of all of us can make it to the meetings. Because then theres a great chance that someone could ask about the details that wasnt there.
  • if you really want to help newcommers you could make a school whit lessons in building, scripting, sculpting, texturing and animation. just ask lots of ppl to give lesson and I am sure it would be nice.
  • No Questions.

Thanks for all of your Feedback, We’ll be working on working your feedback as soon as possible!.

Next TSL Welcomers Feedback Survey will be released in Early August 2008 - All feedback will be reset!
